Reddit reported $663 million in revenue in the first quarter of 2025, marking the seventh consecutive quarter of more than 60% growth. Ad revenue grew 74% year over year. Four categories of poor execution account for most of the failures in this space.
The first is the full-service big agency that treats Reddit as a single line item within a broader scope. The fourth is the social media team that takes over the Reddit assignment without guidance or proper account warm-up. This is the most avoidable and most costly failure. Here is how it happens. A brand account gets created. It's new; it has no post history or karma. The social media manager posts in a subreddit where the brand's audience gathers. The post gets removed. They post again. The account gets flagged. Reddit's automated systems issue a permanent ban to all associated accounts before a human ever reviews it.
A permanent ban is always a possibility when you violate Reddit's rules, whether in the letter or the slightest spirit of the rule. The platform enforces both. And the first action can come from a bot, not a person. Reddit does have a human appeal process, but it is not designed to give the account a second chance. It is designed to reinstate accounts that were wrongly banned. Those are different things.
